Working At The Onion

My time as a graphic designer & production assistant for The Onion News Network

Upon graduating college in summer 2009…I thought it’d be best to move to Bed-Stuy and try working as a graphic designer with my new degree…during the height of the recession. I was fortunate enough to get work with The Onion…which came as quite a surprise seeing as my interview was a sweaty mess. Seriously, I showed up late in shorts and a t-shirt because I got impatient waiting for the elevator to come in their old SoHo office. I ended up taking the stairs up 9 floors before realizing the door was locked and going back down and waiting all over again. The other guy interviewing was wearing a suit…I was drenched in sweat.

And yet, they hired me as a graphics intern, before allowing me to support various departments, including casting, on-set production, and occasionally appearing in the background. This period of time was insanely busy for me, I was producing my web series, taking classes at UCB, performing sketch and improv…but if I could rewind time, I’d like to take a moment. to thank and appreciate all the brilliant people I had the pleasure of learning from and working with.

Below I’ve compiled several videos I worked on, whether it was creating on-screen images, designing fonts, or pretending I was a QA tester for Call of Duty.
